Exosphere Definition and Facts The exosphere is the outermost layer of the Earths atmosphere, located above the thermosphere. It extends from about 600 km until it thins out to merge with interplanetary space. This makes the exosphere about 10,000 km or 6,200 miles thick or about as wide as the Earth. The top boundary of Earths exosphere extends about halfway to the Moon. For other planets with substantial atmospheres, the exosphere is the layer above the denser atmospheric layers, but for planets or satellites without dense atmospheres, the exosphere is the region between the surface and interplanetary space. This is called the surface boundary exosphere. It has been observed for the Earths Moon, Mercury,  and the Galilean moons of Jupiter. The word exosphere comes from the Ancient Greek words exo, meaning outside or beyond, and sphaira, which means sphere. Exosphere Characteristics The particles in the exosphere are extremely far apart. They dont quite fit the definition of a gas because the density is too low for collisions and interactions to occur. Nor are they necessarily plasma, because the atoms and molecules arent all electrically charged. Particles in the exosphere can travel hundreds of kilometers along a ballistic trajectory before bumping into other particles. The Earths Exosphere The lower boundary of the exosphere, where it meets the thermosphere, is called the thermopause. Its height above sea level ranges from 250-500 km up to 1000 km (310 to 620 miles), depending on solar activity. The thermopause is called the exobase, exopause, or critical altitude. Above this point, barometric conditions do not apply. The temperature of the exosphere is nearly constant and very cold. At the upper boundary of the exosphere, the solar radiation pressure on hydrogen exceeds the gravitational pull back toward Earth. The fluctuation of the exobase due to solar weather is important because it affects atmospheric drag on space stations and satellites. Particles that reach the boundary are lost from the Earths atmosphere to space. The composition of the exosphere is different from that of the layers beneath it. Only the lightest gases occur, barely held to the planet by gravity. The Earths exosphere consists mainly of hydrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, and atomic oxygen. The exosphere is visible from space as a fuzzy region called the geocorona. The Lunar Atmosphere On Earth, there are about 1019 molecules per cubic centimeter of air at sea level. In contrast, there are fewer than a million (106) molecules in the same volume in the exosphere. The Moon does not have a true atmosphere because its particles dont circulate, dont absorb much radiation, and have to be replenished. Yet, its not quite a vacuum, either. The lunar surface boundary layer has a pressure of about 3 x 10-15 atm (0.3 nano Pascals). The pressure varies depending on whether its day or night, but the entire mass weighs less than 10 metric tonnes. The exosphere is produced by outgassing of radon and helium from radioactive decay. The solar wind, micrometeor bombardment, and the solar wind also contribute particles. Unusual gases found in the Moons exosphere, but not in the atmospheres of Earth, Venus, or Mars include sodium and potassium. Other elements and compounds found in the Moons exosphere include argon-40, neon, helium-4, oxygen, methane, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and carb on dioxide. A trace amount of hydrogen is present. Very minute quantities of water vapor may also exist. In addition to its exosphere, the Moon may have an atmosphere of dust that hovers above the surface due to electrostatic levitation. Exosphere Fun Fact While the exosphere of the Moon is nearly a vacuum its larger than the exosphere of Mercury. The piece derives important impact from its sub-text of transference: ancient stone to ephemeral paper, which makes a statement about human civilization and history and the ephemerality of human monuments, and arty itself, while simultaneously elevating the ephemerality of the medium and technique (origami) to a sympathetic relationship to ancient art and antiquity. Yet another piece, Spike Sphere, by Thomas Hull, straddles the line between expressiveness and technical precision without ever falling precisely on one side or another. In effect, Hulls piece is the most harmonious of those examples of origami on exhibition at PEM. The overt impact of Hulls piece is that of geometrical expressionism, using a complex geometrical shape to express theme. In my opinion, Hulls Spike Sphere is meant to represent no less than the entire human cosmos in a single figure of origami. I said human because the piece reflects a particularly human concept of wholeness as in other geometrical abstractions: globes, the atom, stars, galaxies and even some scientific models of the multi-verse. Hulls figure is spherical and colored like a budding flower, but spiked suggesting pain, danger, emotional response. This precise configuration of human emotion and abstract form, coupled with organic coloring and an holistic gesture elevates Hulls piece to the highest levels. This work is a masterpiece which reveals the origami, as a medium, embodies much more than the stunned admiration for technique and cleverness associated with folding paper creatively and expressively.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The castle, a strong stone structure, which invokes images of kings and knights, dragons and princesses, is such an integral part of medieval history. One cannot think history without thinking about the towering structures of stone that dominated the green landscapes of the past. These stone monoliths served many purposes: buildings of government, defense, symbols of power, and homes. Just as it has varied purposes, the castles diverse and interesting history, from tiny wooden structures to the behemoth structures of rock and mortar that we associate with the word: Castle.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The castle’s development cannot be pinpointed to a particular year or location, though the first castle is widely accepted as being Douà ©-la-Fontaine and Langeais in the Loire Valley of France. Both these castles were originally stone fortifications that served as homes to local warring Counts. As time went on and their feuding got more violent, their homes got more impressive, each count adding levels and stones to their homes. This one-upmanship continued until, at some point, the homes became what is considered the first castle, the motte and bailey.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Motte and Bailey Castles started out simple, normally just wooden buildings, which relied on natural defenses such as rivers or hills to prevent attacks. Oft times rivers were even diverted to add extra protection, and as a steady water supply in the event of a siege. But always somebody had to do better; soon they were adding mounds, banks ditches, and whatever else would trip up invaders. Earthworks, as they were called, could be mounds, also called mottes, or hollow circles of dirt, called ringworks. In the case of a motte, a wooden tower usually topped it; while a ringwork enclosed structures protected by a wooden palisade, or fence. Nonetheless, in each instance, earth was dug from the perimeter, leaving a ditch, which further impeded attackers. Eventually these two types of earthworks were combined into one castle, the traditional Motte and Bailey. Baileys being a large level area surrounded by a ringwork, with a Motte connecting. The bailey often contai ned a hall, buildings for livestock, a forge and armory, and a chapel. The Motte and Bailey castles were also very quick and easy to construct, and provided a look-out post, in addition to, ad... ... proceeded at a more leisurely pace, becoming more of a hobby than a necessity. However, there were times when a castle or two discouraged an invading force or to quell a rebellious population. These changes in society gradually led to the decline of the castle as an institution. Where castles had once served an important position as a fortress, city hall, and home, these functions were now being better served by other buildings at reduced costs. Nobles tired of playing the ‘my castle is bigger’ game and searched elsewhere for more comfortable homes. And forts manned by professional soldiers assimilated the duty of defending areas. Luckily, some castles remained, serving as a centre for local administration or as prisons long after they had ceased being cool. Some castles were upgraded into opulent palaces, but this cost a boatload, and it was oft cheaper just to build a new home, often cannibalizing the old castles for building material. In the period between the drafting of the Constitution and the start of the Civil War, compromise was a main part in the governing of the United States. The Constitution itself is often referred to as a â€Å"bundle of compromises† and because of the effectiveness of these compromises it has been able to withstand time and continue to be the main source of our government. Conflict arose even after the Constitution and compromises were made to try to keep the Union together and decrease tensions between the North and South.In this paper, I will discuss the compromises that made up the Constitution as well as the compromises that were implemented leading up until the Civil War. The drafting of the Constitution is compiled of great compromises that are the reason why our great government is still working today. James Madison created one of these compromises called the Virginia Plan. His plan called for a strong central government, one that had control to legislate, levy taxes, ve to state laws, and authorize military force against states.His plan also called for a bicameral legislature and fixed representation in both houses of Congress proportionally to each state’s population. The people would select the lower house and those in that house would elect the delegates in the upper house who in turn would select the president and judges. This plan didn’t work because those smaller states felt they wouldn’t have equal representation in this house due to their population being smaller than the larger states. They feared that the large states would control the legislatures and the small states wouldn’t be able to get what they wanted done.After the Virginia Plan didn’t work, William Paterson of New Jersey offered another proposal called the New Jersey Plan. This plan stated that there should be a single chamber congress in which each state had an equal vote, just like the Articles. This plan also did not work because it gave too much power to the smaller states who only compiled about 25% of the Americans. And so, the Great Compromise was proposed. This compromise was passed on July 17, 1787 and stated that the upper house would have equal representation, satisfying the small states, and the lower house would be based on population, satisfying the large states.The fear of the people was that the central government would become too powerful and that the states wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. Through debate and in attempt to solve this from happening, the framers of the Constitution came up with two things: separation of powers and the system of checks and balances. These two systems have kept our central government from getting too powerful as well as keeping our states from getting too powerful. Separation of powers meant that the three distinct branches in the national government all had different powers and one branch couldn’t try to do the job of the others.These three branches a re the executive, judicial, and legislative branch. The executive branch is composed of the President of the United States and his cabinet, the legislative branch is composed of the Senate and House of Representatives, and the judicial branch is the Supreme Court. The system of checks and balances was meant to prevent any one branch from dominating the other two. Examples of the checks and balances include the power of the President to veto acts of Congress, but to insure that the president doesn’t overuse this power Congress can override a president’s veto with a two-thirds majority in each house.The framers also made it so the Constitution could be amended if needed by a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress and then the amendment has to be ratified by three-fourths of the states. This amendment process is the reason why the Constitution has lasted as long as it has and why all the compromises the make of the Constitution still hold true today. The framers made it so the Constitution can be changed if and when our country changed views and ideas on all sorts of issues.The admittance of Missouri as a state threatened the balance of the union in 1819, which at the time had eleven free states and eleven slave states. Since Missouri’s population was composed of 16 percent slaves, it would be admitted as a slave state therefore upsetting the balance in favor of the south. Northerners didn’t like this because Missouri was at the same latitude as the free states of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, and because of this they feared that it would set a precedent for slave states coming more north.The north and south continued to argue and argue over the issue of slavery. The north accused the south of trying to extend the institution of slavery and the south said that the north was conspiring to destroy the Union and end slavery. To resolve this crisis, congress passed a series of agreements that became known as the Missouri Compromise, whi ch smoothed over the crisis. In 1820, Congress admitted Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state in order to balance the number of free and slave states and to keep order between the north and south.Also, it prohibited slavery in the remainder of the Louisiana Purchase north of the southern boundary of Missouri. This compromise soon fell apart after it was passed. Missouri drafted its own Constitution saying that free blacks were prohibited from entering their territory. Because of this provision, which was against the federal Constitution stating that citizens of one state were entitled to the same rights as citizens of other states, antislavery northerners didn’t allow Missouri to be admitted into the Union until 1821.In 1821, Henry Clay came up with a second Missouri Compromise, which didn’t allow Missouri from discriminating against citizens of other states. This compromise didn’t really calm the conflict between the north and south in terms of sl avery. In fact, the conflicts that resulted in the Missouri compromise were the reasons that the Union fell apart 40 years later. The north still feared the spread of slavery into the north and the south feared that the north would try and take away a key part of their way of life, slavery, and the compromise did nothing to calm these fears.By the end of the Mexican-American War, the United States contained thirty states in the union, fifteen of which were slave states and fifteen that were free states. Due to the huge amount of territory that was gained at the end of the war in 1848, the balance of free and slave states was threatened. Southern, or slave states, feared that because of the doctrine of free soil, which meant that Congress prohibited slavery in the territories. So the southerners came up with the idea of extending the Missouri Compromise.Slavery again was the main issue when determining the admittance of states into the Union. In early 1850, Henry Clay again forged a set of compromises to resolve the issues between the north and south. He proposed the admission of California as a free state; the division of the remainder of Mexican cession into two territories, New Mexico and Utah without federal restrictions on slavery; the settlement of Texas-New Mexico boundary dispute on terms of favorable to New Mexico; an agreement that the federal would assume the considerable public debt of Texas; the continuance of slavery in Washington D.C but the abolition of slave trade there; and a more effective fugitive slave law. By summer, Congress passed each part of the component of Clay’s set of compromises. Although it passed, it still didn’t solve the differences between the north and south. The only reason it passed was because the minority in the north and the minority in the south who favored it combined to be more than those who opposed it in the north and south. This compromise favored more so the north than the south.The north had many o bvious â€Å"wins† in this compromise such as California as a free state, the potential of New Mexico and Utah being free states, and the abolition of slave trade in D. C. The compromise still left open the question of whether Congress had the power to prohibit slavery in territories outside of the Mexican cession. A big issue the north had with this compromise was the acceptance of the Fugitive Slave Law. In 1793, the Fugitive Slave Law was passed. This law required judges to award possession of an escaped slave upon any formal request by a master or his representative.Runaways, as slaves who fled their masters were called, were denied a jury trial and sometimes even refused permission to present evidence of their freedom. This law denied free slaves the same rights that were given to whites under the Bill of Rights. Although this law was upheld, it did not mean that Northerners followed it. This upset the south very much and was a main reason the compromise didn’t la st. They wanted the north to follow the provisions of the compromise since they had to as well.In 1854, Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois proposed the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This act created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, which opened new lands for settlement and farming. It repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing settlers in those states to determine through popular sovereignty whether they were slave states or free states. The result of popular sovereignty was the flooding of northerners and southerners into these territories trying to either vote them into being free states or slave states.This act just set fuel to the fire between north and south in terms of slavery and cause great conflict in these territories. The conflicts between the North and South were never truly resolved with the compromises after the ratification of the Constitution. The compromises worked temporarily to smooth over the tensions between them but they never lasted. The reason for this was the le gislations never fixed the real issue, the question of whether blacks were considered equal to whites under the law and until the government made it clear, conflict was inevitable and compromise wouldn’t work.

Horatio Alger’s “Ragged Dick” Essay

In the story of â€Å"Ragged Dick†, Horatio Alger tells an inspirational story portraying a hero, Dick, to be the embodiment of individual opportunity in American culture. Dick gains mobility up the socio ­economic ladder through his good virtue and dedication to higher education. Dick is an honest young â€Å"black ­boot† with a second ­rate shared apartment and low vernacular. However, Dick is generous and industrious, while keeping a frugal stance as to know the value of a dollar. while en route of finding new work, a young boy falls into the east river, and the father swears great rewards to the rescuer. Dick, an excellent swimmer, dives off a ferry and saves the boy, without hearing of any reward. The father, a wealthy industrialist himself, rewards Dick by giving him a well ­paying job as a clerk at his office. Dick, now realizing his potential, has allowed himself a new name with his new career, signifying his upward climb on the ladder claiming that he i s finally, â€Å"cut off from the old vagabond life which he hoped never to resume† and sealing his grip upon the American Dream. Alger’s â€Å"rags to riches† story contains valuable tools that can be used to motivate a person’s social psychology, it’s myths can be unrealistic which can lead a person to believe a dream that could be impossible to obtain. The example of valor, hard work, and initiative are concrete tools for one’s toolbox, whereas relying only on gallantry can only go so far in our socio ­economic world. First, you could just take a look into the professions throughout our economy. Art, literature, and education are thrown on the back burner as business degrees are the #1 funded, and sought after, sectors.

Asian American Studies essays Although there have been a number of readers published in the growing field of Asian American Studies, none approach the subject matter with more clarity, depth and understanding than Zhou and Gatewood's Contemporary Asian America: A Multidisciplinary Reader. As one who is taking Asian American Studies courses I appreciate Contemporary Asian America for its commitment to providing historical readings on the birth and development of Asian American Studies, as well as articles on Asian American community formation, new immigrant and refugee populations, Asian American visual culture, multiethnic Asian Americans, and queer Asian America, among many other topics. I found the evidence to the claims that Asian Americans there. Compared with other regions of the world, U.S. race relations are still largely characterized in Black and White terms, and that's the way it should be to a large extent because of the history of this country and the persistent struggles. At the same time, given the rapidly changing demographic nature of American society, race relations have to be framed in broader terms. And here, I don't mean it's going to be White and Latino or White and Asian or White and American Indian. Race relations are so complex today that we need to think about race relations between peoples of color. And how that, in turn, informs us about Black/White relations. For example, some of us, in analyzing what happened in Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict, the so-called Los Angeles uprising, realized that the conflict, which was ostensibly an intense one between Blacks and Asians, was much more complicated than that. To be sure, the stores of some two thousand Korean shopkeepers were looted and burned. Being Professional Nurse

The unsatisfactory professional conduct definition applies to the case study since the conduct of a nurse practitioner failed to meet of the reasonable standards that is accepted by the laws. According to New South Wales consolidated Acts, unsatisfactory professional conduct of registered health practitioner refers to the conduct demonstrated in skills, care excised or knowledge ether in omission or act that is below the reasonable professional standard. Furthermore, practitioner failed to escalate the declining health issue to the health service manager. The practitioner exhibited unsatisfactory professional character and numerous omissions that are not in line with their professional training leading to death (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2008). Nurse needed to have done emergent medical review, provided immediate assistance, provided faster clinical assessment of the patient for accurate diagnosis and escalates the worsening health condition Health Service Manager to obtain immediate medical intervention. Firstly, the nurse is would have done emergent medical review due to patient’s blood pressure and respiratory rate examination result. Secondly, nurse need to have provided immediate assistance due to continuous abdominal pain which indicate deterioration in health. Thirdly, as a professional nurse there was need for faster clinical assessment by medical doctor as the patient was in red zone which require assessment with 10 minutes to prevent worsening health condition of patient. Finally, nurse would have escalates the worsening health condition of the patient to Health Service Manager for immediate medical assistance of the patient (Pairman and Pi be et al 2015). Medical doctor, laboratory personnel and pharmacist needed to be involved in the coordination of care. Medical doctor would be administering the necessary treatment for the patient. Medical laboratory personnel need for blood and other required medical diagnosis for the patient. Blood diagnosis would have provided the immediate conclusion on the nature and identity of the disease. Finally, pharmacist would obtain the r mended medications for emergent treatment of the patient. The three health care team officers were needed since septicemia is life threatening diseases that need emergency identification and treatment (Andre and Heartfield 2011). There are a number of mitigating factors that reduced the individual’s accountability in the case. Firstly, nurse was busy the afternoon when the patient’s condition was worsening. Secondly, nurse was attending and administering medicine to another emergency patient. Thirdly, patient had been given antibiotics by medical doctor and therefore hoped patient will improve. Fourthly, the regular doctor was not available and was to arrive later. Fifthly, there was lack of clear policies for emergency doctor to attend other patient. Finally, nurse was not aware that at time of â€Å"red zone† policy a doctor should be called to provide medical assistance despite training on the â€Å"Between the Flag† policies (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia 2010). According to NMBA Codes and standards, Standard 1 statement 1:1 part requires one to assess plex unstable health care need of patient. This was not the case since the practitioner shows minimal concern on the continuous unstable health condition of the patient. Furthermore, the nurse did not asses the impact of co-morbidity and interprets assessment information correctly. This would have help change the plan of action to have the patient transferred to well equipped facility on time and therefore breach the expected standard of practice of nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2006). Standard 1 statement 1:2 requires timely use of diagnostic investigation for clinical decision making. In the case study, nurse did not exhibit timely response and effective munication of the patient deteriorating health. Furthermore, escalation of the issue to the health care officer in charge was not done in time. The transfer of patient to another better health facility also failed despite several attempts. Standard 2 Statement 2:1 indicates the need to translate evidences into plan of care which was not the case as the nurse ignored the medical examinations evidence of worsening patient health. The nurse did not do the medical review despite unstable blood pressure and respiratory rate and continuous diarrhea. In addition, the nurse was supposed to take personal responsibility to evaluate medical examination findings for correct decision making. Standard 4 Statement 4:1 is based on evaluating ou es of personal practice. Nurse was required to document treatments or interventions accordingly yet the practitioner asses the patient but fail to document the result. It was also expected that the nurse on duty should apply evidence available to identify appropriate ou e measures. The declining health of patient was placed patient at red zone as described in the between flag policy yet the practitioner did not document this result (Chang and Daly, 2016).   Professional behaviors such as faster response, personal concern, observational skills, medical assistance and good munication skills would made the situation different. Firstly, the worsening health of the patient required faster response in attending the patient (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, 2010). Secondly, continuous pain would attract the nurse to personal concern that is necessary for patient care.   As professional nurse immediate plan of action was required to reduce plications of the septicemia due to delayed treatment. This professional behaviour would attract different plan of action for instance, severe septicemia require patient admission into the medical emergency facility. Thirdly, good observational skills during examination, assessment and provision emergent plan of action or medical assistance would have further change the situation. Based on nurse experience it was important to municate deteriorating health to health service manager (Stein-Parbury, (20 14). Moreover, due to the declining of patient’s health condition the nurse was supposed to have close interdisciplinary engagement to ensure emergent assistance. Fourthly, provision of faster medical assistance to the client due to the continuous diarrhea and back pain was critical since there was no time for delay. Septicemia required quick administration of broad spectrum antibiotics as medical assistance.   I have learned to prepare to adequately to provide all the required care to patient during my professional practice. Firstly, it is my responsibility to provide medical assistance to patient depending on the urgency need of those clients (Pairman and Pi be et al 2015). Secondly, as a professional nurse my response in time of emergency case is highly required because this is necessary for life threatening diseases. Thirdly, documentation of medical assessment and examination result of patient is importance during my professional practice. Finally, escalating patient’s declining improvement to the required health care officers is important. This implies that I have to learn both munication and organization polices of hospital. Communication of the patient medical progress as an aspect of care is vital for new graduate nurse. According to Chang and Daly (2016), personal munication skills for graduate nurse is important for facilitating care plan between patient and other health care team officers. Professional nurse is accountable for effective munication of patient progress, deteriorating health and any medical assistance needs to health care officer in charge or to the medical doctor. In addition, nurse is accountable for documentation of patient’s medical assessment or examination.
